Please join us Sunday,May 1st at 11am & 6:30pm to hear Steve Weatherford.

The following text is taken from Steve’s website:

“As some of you know, in May -2013 Lily Fern Weatherford decided to retire from touring in the Weatherfords after 70 years, It’s a break well deserved. I have decided to continue to tour and sing as much as the Lord will allow. I have been asked if I am going to start a Quartet or go out as a Soloist. My answer is simple. I’m going out on my own until I’m at the point where the Lord sends the right people and the right environment for a Quartet or even a trio. I’m not quite ready for that. But I have prepared my whole life to be where I am now. I am enjoying life and being with my family and getting chances to sing at some of the places we have always gone, as well as getting some opportunities to go to new places. I have always tried to let the Lord lead in what I do. I am thankful beyond measure for those who have supported me in my continuation. I could not do it without you. Some have helped financially , some have offered to find a place will to host a concert and MANY have sent up prayers and for that I am deeply grateful. I do have a whole new program, I still sing a few of the classics that folks love to hear. I’ve added several songs from the old days that I have not done in years. I’ve also added some new songs to the program I’ve always wanted to sing, songs that have blessed me over the years. I really enjoy them. I think you will too. “

We are so excited to share in this new chapter in the Weatherford history and pray that you’ll be here too!

Memorial Day,originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our Nation’s service. While Waterloo, N. Y. was officially declared the birthplace of Memorial Day by President Lyndon Johnson in May of 1966.  It is about reconciliation: it is about coming together to honor those who gave their all.

Memorial Day was officially proclaimeed on May 5th 1868 by General John Logan, national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, in his General Order No. 11, and was first observed on May 30, 1868 when flowers were placed on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery.

Traditional observance of Memorial Day has diminished over the years. Many Americans have forgotten the meaning and traditions of Memorial Day. At many cemeteries, the graves of the fallen are increasingly ignored and neglected. But, what may be needed to return the solemn, and even sacred spirit back to Memorial Day, is for a return to its traditional day of observance.

We thank those who gave all

Our Mission’s Conference is over, but it is still Mission’s month here at Westside.

Many Christians are like wheelbarrows; no good unless pushed

Others are like canoes; they need to be paddled

Some are like kites; if you don’t keep a string on them, they fly away

Still others are like balloons; full of wind and just waiting for a chance to explode

Then there are others like footballs; you can’t tell which way they will bounce

But praise the Lord, many Christians are like good pocket watches; with open faces and busy hands, they are well regulated and full of good works.

Christians like this are the back-bone of every church!

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13)

A story tells of a little boy whose sister needed a blood transfusion. The doctor had explained that she had the same disease the boy had recovered from two years earlier. Her only chance for recovery was a transfusion from someone who had previously conquered the disease. Since the two children had the same rare blood type, the boy was the ideal donor.

“Would you give your blood to your sister Mary?” the doctor asked. Little Johnny hesitated, his lower lip started to tremble, and then he smiled and said, “Sure, for my sister.”

Soon the two children were wheeled into the hospital room–Mary, pale and thin; Johnny, robust and healthy. Neither spoke, but when they met, Johnny grinned. As the nurse inserted the needle into his arm, Johnny’s smile faded. He watched the blood flow through the tube.

With the ordeal almost over, his voice slightly shaky, broke the silence. “Doctor, when do I die?” Only then did the doctor realize why Johnny had hesitated, why his lip had trembled when he’d agreed to donate his blood. He’d thought giving his blood to his sister meant giving up his life. Though, in reality, it was not necessary, he was willing to give his life for his sister. In that brief moment, his love for his sister, caused him to make his great decision.

Let us remember that there was one

who laid down His life for us.
