PERSONAL SEPARATION

2 TIMOTHY 2:1-26

TX. VS. 21

-The Christian is to be different from those in the lost world around him.

-This difference is caused by the fact that for the Christian, Jesus Christ is living in them.

-Many call this difference, personal separation.

-This text speaks of this difference by the use of the word purge.

-The word #SYMBOL \f "WP TypographicSymbols"65purge#SYMBOL \f "WP TypographicSymbols"64 means to cut out and cleanse thoroughly, or to remove.

-Personal separation is not very popular in our day and time as we have many Christians who

live just like those who are not Christians.

-We have men trying to look and be like women and women who try to look and be like men.

-We have children telling the parents what to do instead of the parents telling the children what

to do.

-We have women taking over men#SYMBOL \f "WP TypographicSymbols"61s responsibilities and vice versa.

-We have churches where the members tell the pastor what to do instead of letting the pastor

lead.

-I want to give you five biblical truths about personal separation from our text this morning.

A. Separate from error--Vs. 15-18

1. Vs. 15--Must study and know the Word of God to be separate from error.

2. Vs. 16--To separate from error, leave the teachings alone that differ with the Bible.

3. Vs. 17--If you do not leave untruth alone, it will destroy your effectiveness as a

Christian.

4. Vs. 18--When you do not separate from error you cause someone else#SYMBOL \f "WP TypographicSymbols"61s faith to be

to ineffective.

B. Separate from iniquity--Vs. 19

C. Separate from lust--Vs. 22

D. Separate from ignorance--Vs. 23&15

A. The praise of separation by God is to be called and used as a #SYMBOL \f "WP TypographicSymbols"65vessel of honor#SYMBOL \f "WP TypographicSymbols"64

1. God honors those who separate themselves unto Him.

2. The word #SYMBOL \f "WP TypographicSymbols"65honour#SYMBOL \f "WP TypographicSymbols"64 means, God highly esteems, beloved of God, most precious of

God, and dear and valuable unto God.

B. The reason that God cannot use a lot of His children is that they make no practice of

being separated from the world in their thinking or living.

A. There are 3 types of sanctification taught in the Bible.

1. Sanctification by the Holy Spirit

II Th 2:13

13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

a. It is the work done by the Holy Spirit which brings the lost to Christ. (He sets

them apart.

2. Sanctification by the Blood of Christ.

Heb 10:10

10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

Heb. 13:12--Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood,

suffered without the gate.

Heb. 10:14--For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

a. It means that once we are truly saved, we are always saved.

b. It is the only perfect sanctification that we experience on this earth at this time.

3. Sanctification by the Word of God.

John 17:17-19

17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.

19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.

a. Gradually growing up spiritually as we study and practice the Word of God in

our lives.

B. The placement of separation is allowing God as you grow to be set apart for a special

work through His Church in this world.

1. By personal separation a Christian makes himself qualified for service and blessing

by the Lord Jesus.

A. #SYMBOL \f "WP TypographicSymbols"65Prepared unto every good work.#SYMBOL \f "WP TypographicSymbols"64

1. The result of personal separation is service that is rated as good by the Lord Jesus.

Matt 5:16

16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

A. God#SYMBOL \f "WP TypographicSymbols"61s people are to be different, superior in their living, and a vivid contrast to the lost

world.

1. This difference is personal separation from error, evil, appetites of the flesh and

ignorance.

2. This separation is beneficial and causes service to be effective and powerful.

3. Christian are you separated unto the Lord?
