"BE THANKFUL UNTO HIM"
PSALM 100:1-5
TX. VS. 4
4Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
INTRODUCTION:
-Reason for thankfulness: Spiritual and physical
-Who are to receive thankfulness? Lord-gave us life, saved us, and keeps us saved! Others!
-Remembering to be thankful is a great virtue!
-Unthankful people are a griping and complaining people.
-In our scripture this morning we find the following things concerning thankfulness:
Vs.1-Joyful noise = Shout for joy, what God does for you
Vs.2-Be thankful you have a way to work for God in His Work.
-Have some song to sing to God, because of a thankful heart.
Vs.3-Thank God for who He is.
-We are here only because He desired us to be here.
-Live to show that we belong to Him for He provides all of our needs.
Vs.4 -Our life is to be lived in a way that it proves we are a thankful person.
-Always to speak well of God and what He does for us.
Vs.5 -The Lord can do no wrong. 2 ways that God is so Good!
-1. For His eternal mercy (Unlimited forgiveness)
-2. For His promised Word to all Generations. (There will not be a time when people will
not have His Word.
-I want us to look at five things this morning in connection with our text verse, "Be thankful unto
Him."
I. BE THANKFUL UNTO HIM FOR OUR BEING. ACTS 17:26-28
26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;
27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:
28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.
A. We have a certain place to live and work for God on this earth.
1. He determines our birth place, our parents, and his will for our life.
2. He seeks to save us.
3. Any abilities that we have, is because He has allowed us to have them and to use them.
II. BE THANKFUL FOR YOUR SALVATION. 2 PETER 3:9
9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
A. No one will ever be able to say, that the Lord did not do all that He could to save them
from going to Hell.
1. Need to be thankful for the one who led you to the Lord.
2. Need to be thankful for the ones who God has used to help us to grow in the Lord.
III. BE THANKFUL FOR THE CHURCH. EPH. 5:25
25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
A. Christ loves the Church, so we must love it and be thankful for it. (How do we love
God’s Church?)
1. We prove we are thankful and love Christ’s Church, through our attendance and
involvement in the Local Church, which was founded on the Day of Pentecost.
2. Except for 3 years in the Army, I have always had a local church to serve the Lord
from.
3. Name the things you are thankful for, because of the Local Church.
4. Much easier to face and go through problems, when you are in the Local Church.
-For the God on the Mountains, is still God in the Valleys.
-When things go wrong, He makes them right.
-The God of the Good Times, is still God in the Bad times.
-The God of the Day, is still God in the Night.
IV. BE THANKFUL FOR SOULS TO WITNESS TO. PROV. 11:30
30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.
A. The righteous are as trees of life; 1. the fruits of their piety and charity, their instructions, reproofs, examples, and prayers, their interest in heaven, and their influence upon earth, are like the fruits of that tree, precious and useful, contributing to the support and nourishment of the spiritual life in many; 2. they are the ornaments of paradise, God's church on earth, for whose sake it stands
B. The wise are something more; they are as trees of knowledge, not forbidden, but commanded knowledge. 1. He that is wise, by communicating his wisdom, wins souls, wins upon them to bring them in love with God and holiness, and so wins them over into the interests of God's kingdom among men. 2. The wise are said to turn many to righteousness, and that is the same with winning souls here.
V. BE THANKFUL TO HIM FOR THE COUNTRY YOU ARE A CITIZEN IN.
12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.
A. I still believe that this is still the best country in all of the world to be born in and live in.
1. Freedom to choose the right church to be in.
2. Freedom to send missionaries to other countries to build churches in.
3. Freedom to do whatever it is that the Lord calls you to do.
(Sing the Statue of Liberty.)
VI. BE THANKFUL TO HIM FOR HEAVEN TO COME. REV. 21:1-4
1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
A. Those verses say it all!
CONCLUSION:
-Be thankful today for any decision you might need to make today, for Christ.
-Be thankful today for all God has allowed this Local Church to do for Him this last year.
-If you are lost today and without Christ, be thankful you can come forward and be saved today!
-Be thankful that you can come forward this morning and lay it all upon the Altar, and leave it
there!
